The Eight Sacred Families of the MTOC
The Eight families are emotional connections between the cards. The Interlacements are numerical relationships between the cards.
Families and Interlacements are similar to the Suits of the Minor Arcana. What's different is that Families are somewhat more about the emotional connections between the cards and the Interlacements are somewhat more about the intellectual connections. I say "somewhat" because the web of these many connections interweaves, rather than compartmentalizes.

Working with the families
The two sections of the MTOC--the Trumps and the Oracle Cards--are woven together by the Eight Sacred Families that, similar to the suits of the Minor Arcana, are about various dimensions, or aspects of life, feelings, and intellectual constructs.
The Families are:
Love • Ouroboros • Torchlight • Star •
Flower of Life • Openings • Tree • and Rose.

These families lend the cards an array of secondary characteristics.
Family of Love -- The Heart symbol. The characteristics the symbol conveys to each card in its family are love, community, unity, connection, compassions, interbeing within the divine web of life.
