Those who looks outside, dream; Those who looks inside, awaken. -Carl Jung
How Does Tarot Work?
The way I use the Tarot in my work is that, with its help, we gain access to your and my inner wisdom, as well as our shared collective unconscious(the storehouse of ancestral experience). Collective unconscious is a term world famous psychology pioneer, Carl Jung, coined to describe the part of consciousness that connects us all even when we are unaware of it. The Tarot is a tool that allows us to access this ancestor wisdom in addition to our own inner wisdom. In this way, we are able to collaborate to help you gain insight and clarity about what you need and want, such as healing, direction, and purpose and how you can create those things in your life.
Undecided? Gain Clarity With a Reading.
I was taught by the magnificent Gaia Hawkin whose lineage of tarot readers reaches back eight generations. My approach is based on what I call transpersonal soma-spiritual philosophy to honor the mind/body/spirit connection that characterizes the human experience. As a Tarot reader and certified life coach with well over a decade of experience, I am able to help you find the ways in which you can optimize choices and connect with your inner power to change and heal, and move forward on your Hero's Journey.
The Tarot helps bring focus to your vision and empower your goals. It shows where the current opportunities for your growth and life are.
With common-sense guidance, I help you connect with your dreams and your purpose (which are often one and the same). I help you reconnect with your fullest, most vibrant self. To a reading, bring specific personal, business, and/or spiritual question. Or let go and let the Tarot reading open up new horizons.
Interview with Henry
Q: How did you get into Tarot?
Henry: Until I met my teacher, I thought tarot was baloney because, though I'm deeply spiritual I'm also skeptical. But when I saw her speak on the subject of the tarot, I was totally intrigued. The first thing she said is that the cards themselves are not magic, that we are the magic. She proceeded to describe the Tarot in Jungian terms and I'm a Jung follower, I understand that symbols are universal and that we deeply connect with them because they arise from within our individual and collective consciousness. I'm also a Campbellian, I believe that we use symbols to express our experiences where ordinary reality and immanence intersect. What I didn't expect is that the cards would become an instrument that creates a connection with the divine during a reading. What in a coaching setting may take several session--for the client to become vulnerable and open to, and connected with the divine within--will happen in a tarot session in a matter of minutes, sometimes seconds. I didn't anticipate that the tarot would become a reliable instrument for facilitating divine guidance. In every reading, that amazes me again and again. The ease of it. The joy. It feels so good..
Q: How do you see the Tarot?
H: Like I said, as I experience it, the Tarot is the quickest and easiest access to the divine. Through the Tarot, the divine within me can connect with the divine within you, allowing us to deep-dive into the heart of the matter to help you create and live a life that simply amazes you, fulfills you and makes you happy.
I also deeply respect people's beliefs and trust and have confidence in them. Everyone's reality is unique and deserves to be honored. When I do a reading for someone, I ask what their lens is and convey the reading in language that is respectful of their beliefs..
Q: You speak of "divine reality" in connection with the Tarot. How did you come to that idea?
H: In the 1980’s, I had a mystical direct-experience of the nature of ultimate reality. I found myself as a point of consciousness in an infinite illuminated darkness; that's the only way I can describe it. There was no actual physical space, only an endless oceanic state of love much like the "oceanic feeling" that Romain Rolland coined in a letter to Sigmund Freud to describe oneness with the universe. I understood that I had been transported outside the reality we share day-to-day in which you and I are having this conversation and into meta or divine reality. This oneness, completeness, goodness, I understood as the true nature of reality. There's more to it, of course [laughs]. We could fill a book right now if we had the time.
Q: Why do you think that is important?
H: Connecting with the perspective of life hanging together in divine connection is profoundly life affirmation and a fantastic ingredient for a recipe of living a life that makes us happy. For me, the Tarot is an excellent tool to aid us in achieving the fulfillment of the life we authentically desire.
